Coming full circle

The final leg is officially complete!

The Heine family joined us in Frankfurt, first Pat & Carl, then CJ & Kirsten, and finally Matt & Bethany. It was a German Christmas whirlwind, complete with a return to Cologne and journeys to Mainz, Trier, Heidelberg, Strasbourg and our base camp in Meisenheim - a really quaint, cozy Rhineland-Pfalz town. We even got a white Christmas!

After a brief rental car snafu, we headed north to family territory. First, the Lahmann's gave us a nice place to stay and great conversations over dinner. Then we headed to a 90+ person family get-together - lots of German fun.

Next, we all headed by train to Berlin for 4.5+ hr. walking tour in freezing temps, but we had a great time -- it really reemphasized our love for this city. Two nights at Ingrid's and a "things come full circle organ concert" by C. Heine in Nienhagen (we made it into the church newspaper), and the final agoninzing packing commenced.

We saw the fam' off on the 31st and headed into the New Year with colds and the Frankfurt Airport out the hotel window. Along with half the young crying children of Ireland, we headed home -- and here we are...trying to figure what being back means...

Photos are up -- more to come to fill in some details once we have consolidated with the rest of the photographers.

Some have asked, is the blog coming to an end? Well, we've got a few "looking back" posts up our sleeve, so stay tuned for the time being...

I am so jealous about the snow!

In addition to your "looking back" posts, we also want to see what decisions you make for the future as well...

Makes me miss Berlin. We also had several long walking tours of Berlin. There is just so much there and every corner is something new.

Excited that your back, but I'm missing your adventure already!! We checked the site every couple of weeks and we've been taking notes of where we want to go. We hope being back means great things for you both!
