Greetings all! We have been keeping busy with another terrific farm in the south of Switzerland. As it ended up, we gathered chestnuts instead of grapes -- there were a lot of chestnuts! (Alyssa managed to get hit on the head by falling chestnuts twice -- a sign of really good luck, so we hear.) We stayed with a really great family of seven on a mountain side. The snows came early to the tops of the surrounding alps and tricked all the animals into coming down early -- so we got a lot of exercise taking the sheep back up and rounding up the cows with Markus & Sabine.

During our two weeks in Verdabbio, we also visited Bellinzona which has three amazing castles and its own great wall of sorts. Dry stone walling, feeding woolly pigs, lamb slaughtering and roasting chestnuts over an open fire also filled our days. Also had some great conversations and hearty laughs about traveling, marriage, children, religion and politics - whew.

See photos for more. We're currently in Vernazza, Italy for our anniversary weekend (3 years!) and enjoying some sun and late summer. More soon. Ciao!

Once upon a time, many years ago, one of the castles in Bellinzona had a row of gargoyles perched on the Ramparts. There were 9 in all. They went by the names of Joah, Bo, Stephanie, Jon, Becca, Jon, Beach, Isaac and Steve. If you listen closely you can still hear their annoying laughter as they chase Burger back to the bus.
